The technical team you did not have to hire.

At Make Directory Developers, we take ownership of the software, integrations, automations, and cloud systems an established business depends on - without that business having to hire and manage an internal technical team. Since 2017, we’ve helped operators turn unclear, half-owned technology into systems they understand and trust. Day to day that means one team that knows your environment, answers for the technical decisions inside it, and stays with the systems long enough to be responsible for them.

what we care about

How we choose the work, and how we do it.

README

Selective by Design

We don’t take on every project. We work with established companies where technology already matters to revenue, risk, or daily operations, and where steady ownership will make a measurable difference. That focus is why every client gets our full attention instead of a queue position.

README

Industry Agnostic, Situation Specific

We don’t specialize in an industry - we specialize in a situation. The original developer is gone. No one really owns the application. The same problems keep coming back. Systems don’t talk to each other and the gaps get filled with spreadsheets. If that sounds familiar, the industry on your business license doesn’t change the work.

README

Driven by Values That Deliver Results

Good software is built on collaboration, transparency, and technical excellence. We work alongside your team, document what we learn, and keep decisions in plain language. By the end you won’t just have a working system - you’ll understand it, own it, and be able to hand it to anyone.

README

A Long-Term Technology Partner

When you work with Make Directory Developers, you’re not just hiring a dev shop - you’re gaining the technical ownership most companies our clients’ size can’t justify staffing internally. Maintenance, integrations, infrastructure, automation, and technical planning, handled by a team that already knows your environment.

the word we use most

What you should be able to check when someone owns your systems.

Ownership is easy to put on a website, so here is the version you can hold us to. Ask us for any of these at any point in an engagement and you should get it the same day.

Documented

How your system works is written down and kept current, so understanding it never depends on one person still being reachable.

Accessible

Domains, cloud accounts, repositories, and vendor logins stay in your name, and you can see who has access to what.

Observable

Monitoring and alerting are part of the build, so a failure reaches us before it reaches your customers.

Transferable

Another competent team could pick your system up and continue. Staying with us stays a decision you get to make.

Accountable

Every technical decision has a name attached to it, and you know whose name it is before you have to ask.

guest@make-directory:~$ cat ./founder.md

who you work with

The person who learns your systems and stays with them.

Portrait of Andrew Schwartz

Andrew Schwartz

Founder & Principal Engineer

My career has sat where business operations meet software engineering. A Business Management degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology, and years of running servers, writing code, and shipping systems alongside it — because what a decision costs the business is usually the part that makes it the right technical call or the wrong one.

Since then the work has been production systems: some built from nothing, some inherited from whoever left, some pushed well past what they were originally designed for, all of them expected to keep running while the business changed around them. The same engineering goes into our own software — CobolScope for mainframe modernization, Strata for multicloud infrastructure, and the research at Make Directory Labs.

When you work with us, I am the person who learns your environment end to end, tells you plainly what is at risk, and stays accountable for what we decide to do about it. Most of the companies we work with depend on software every day and cannot justify a full internal team to own it. That is the gap this company exists to fill.

client notes

What it is actually like to work with us.

This company is fantastic. I've only recently began to source third party help with my entrepreneurial endeavors and couldn't be happier. I asked them to customize a WordPress theme for me and they kept me informed every step of the way. Kind, smart, quick, take direction well and great at communication. I think my favorite part was the dashboard you are able to login to once you get your project going- it makes the exchange of files, messages and payment so easy. I highly recommend them and plan to use this company as my go-to for future projects.

From the turn around time, customer service and communication (~2am calls/texts) throughout the process and even now with site and SEO updates - I haven't really seen this level of professionalism outside of bulge bracket banking and private equity.

- John T.

Working with the mkdir team was a great experience. They kept cool even thought I had a ton of changes and need things redone over and over again. I really appreciated their communication. They finished the task under high pressure from our side as we had a deadline very tight. Thank you MkDir!

- Meghan P.

Reasonable and flexible pricing, efficient, but most of all a pleasure to work with. Friendly and polite team that gets things done. Look forward to future projects!

Make Directory was able to create options that I did not even know were possible. Admittedly, I am not very technically inclined, but they were able to communicate clearly with me and make changes around what my preferences were. All of this with very little direction provided! Great work, 5/5!
